Saturday superfood breakfast

March 14, 2009

Back home after the 55 min morning run in the forest. The quiet morning rain had just stopped. Some snow left on the trails but it was wet, not icy, so not too slippery. The run felt good after 30 minutes when I came into “the flow” and could run light – even uphill, which is a great feeling. Coming home seeing myself in the mirror how slim I have become just the last few days. The balance indicates 65 kilos (143 lbs) which is the lowest in years. Could it be the “Brad Pitt effect”? Appearently he used a spirulina diet to loose weight for a role. Or could it be that I have been running a lot lately? Anyway, I don’t want to loose more weight before the race for obvious reasons. A few years ago when I did the Jungle Marathon in the Amazon I lost 8-10 pounds, looking like a ghost. A ripped ghost!! The year after before going back to Jungle Marathon I did some serious carbo and fat loading – quite far from the current superfood diet.

While running I use to listen to my favourite music or language classes with my ipod shuffle (attached on the back of my cap with the cable rolled-up). Coming home I’ts nice to check out the latest Gilles Peterson Worldwide show – excellent as always!

Here is today’s post-run Superfood breakfast:

Recovery drink 1: warm water, sea salt, manuka honey and a squish of lemon.

Recovery drink 2: water; BoKU Super Chi powder (this a new product not yet on the market) and a teaspoon BioStrath (yeast fed with herbs, used by swedish top runner Mustafa Mohammed as immune system booster).

Recovery drink 3: oatmilk, Sunwarrior raw vegan 85% protein (chocolate taste) from sprouted whole grain brown rice, complete amono-acid profile for 100% assimilation. And 100% organic activated barley also from Sunwarrior.

And not forgetting my daily Spirulina Pacifica pills from Cyanotech (considered to be the best spirulina you can get) and BioAstin natural astaxanthin (considered to be the most powerful antioxidant in the world) from Cyanotech.

(I have also got Astaxin, astaxanthin, from BioReal, and Medox, super potent antioxidants, both used by the Swedish cross country skiing team.)

Topping the organic youghurt I use bee pollen from Rolfseruds biprodukter; shelled hemp seeds from Biofood; a scoop of BoKU Super Food powder (“one of the most nutrient-dense foods known to man”, with natural vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, trace minerals, probiotics and enzymes); a scoop of Rowing Mix berry powder from Finberryx (used by the Finnish rowing team); and some Goji berries.

Today I will go shopping the remaining food for the desert race at Ekostore, an organical food store here in Göteborg, with my friend and nutritional coach Max Hansson. I’m still concerned about getting enough energy and feeling of being satisfied during the race. More about that in another post.
