Minimalistisk löpning: Minimalistic running trend feature

April 4, 2011

For the April issue of Utemagasinet (Swedish outdoor magazine) I have conducted a review of 8 lightweight (sub 250g) running shoes, with the help of a few test runners.

The feature also includes articles about how the Born To Run book by Christopher McDougall sparked the barefoot running trend + some advice on forefoot running technique.

Running photos from sunny Seychelles and alpine Zermatt by my dear friend and colleague Dan Kullberg.

Montrail Rogue Racer, only 230g, neutral with plenty of cushioning, will set a new standard.

The selection of reviewed shoes covered a variety of shoe types: racing flats, minimalistic outdoor shoes, barefoot shoes, lightweight trainers and lightweight trail running shoes: adidas Adios, Saucony Type A4, Saucony Kinvara, Keen A86, Icebug Anima, Vibram Five Fingers Trek Sport, Merrell Trail Glove and Montrail Rogue Racer. A few tested models had to be excluded since they didn’t match the serious lightweight criteria, however I will write about these models here on my blog: Salomon S-LAB 4, La Sportiva XCountry and Inov-8 Roclite 319. The profiles of the reviewed shoes were measured, to see just how low to the ground these shoes actually are. There is still room for improvement when it comes to profile and heel-to-toe drop.
